Here Be Sexist Vampires: Deep in Your Veins Series, Book 1

Sam Parker is a vampire with a gift so strong and substantial that she is invited to partake in a test for a place in the Grand High Master Vampire's private army. She finds that not only has the army never included a woman, but it has never included a Svente vampire; a breed that is regarded by the super strong Pagori breed and the hypnotically beautiful Keja breed to be too tame and human-like.

Most refuse to take her seriously, especially a Pagori commander named Jared who she craves in spite of herself. The Grand High Master, however, sees her potential and offers her the position of Jared's co-commander to help train the newest squad in time for the impending attack on his home. Sam has to demonstrate to Jared and the squad of chauvinists why it is incredibly foolish to underestimate a wilful, temperamental, borderline-homicidal Svente female.

4.5 Stars! I’ve been on a Suzanne Wright benge the past couple of days, but decided to take a break from shifters and get my vampire on. Lol.Summary:When the vampire world is made up of three vampire breeds, each with their own strengths and weaknesses and your breed happens to be the low man on the totem pole, you don’t expect much. That’s why Samantha “Sam" Parker is stunned to learn she’s been chosen as a candidate to join The Grand High Master’s private army. She can also sort of understand if the scout saw her wield her gift. It’s strong, controlled, and unheard of in her breed. Having lived the last few years of her life under one man’s thumb, Sam jumps at the chance to try out and gain her freedom. Her excitement and anticipation soon dim upon finding out the legion has never included a woman or a Sventé vampire. The strong Pagori and beautiful Keja breeds feel that the Sventé are too tame and human-like to be a threat. Upon showing at the trials, Sam realizes that her acceptance into the elite army will be almost impossible, as no one takes her seriously. When she bumps heads with the sexy, arrogant, and sexist Commander Jared Michaels, she knows her chance at a better life was but a pipe dream. Luckily for Sam, though, the Grand High Master sees her strength and potential and offers her a position as Jared’s co-commander. Needless to say, Jared is less than pleased with the decision, but the newest squad of recruits have to be trained in record time in order to be ready for an attack on The Hollow. Sam will have to show Jared and their recruits just how dangerous it is to underestimate a stubborn, mercurial Sventé vampire. And when she bumps heads against Jared and sparks fly and tension ramps up, Sam will have to do everything in her power to keep from jumping the cocky bastard.I really loved this book, and I’m not quite sure what took me so long to read it. It’s been on my TBR since 2014, and I bought the ebook ages ago. I’m glad I finally did, though, because the storyline was fantastic, the world-building amazing, and the characters were aces. Sam is going on a list of my all-time favorite heroines. She was amazing; intelligent, funny, lethal, cunning, feisty, and strong. All of those attributes combined and balanced her vulnerability perfectly. I loved her confidence, her outspoken personality, and the care she took with training her squad. She could also use her gift like no other. SW has a way with her heroines, and I think Sam is among the top of the list of greats. Jared gave me fits. Goodness, could the man get any more sexist!? It drove me nuts when he opened his gorgeous mouth and something dumb came out. That said, he was a vampire (hello obsession) and a sexy, alpha male one at that. He could be arrogant and a lot close-minded, but he could also be funny and roguish. His position as Heir Apparent spoiled him for choice, and so he was a bit out of touch when it came to a woman that meant something to him. He came around, though. Together, the pages were barely able to contain Jared and Sam. The sexual tension was through the roof, and only built higher and higher as each page turned. Jared and Sam had a magnetic chemistry. They were undeniably drawn to each other, but neither wanted to be. Their resistance and vastly different views on a “woman’s place” only served to amp up the lust even more. Their banter was hilarious and sexy, too. I just loved them together. Overall, this was an enthralling read. I loved the vampire world SW dreamed up with the different breeds, gifts, and strengths/weaknesses. I can say that the description of some of the gifts was a bit tedious, reading like a dossier, when it might have been better for us to learn of them by experiencing them. The storyline was exciting and allowed for quite a bit of action. The fight scenes were pretty cool, and very well written. The supporting characters were interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing more of them, some with their own books. There is no cliffhanger, but I do feel this book is a sort of fade-to-black ending, so I’m definitely looking forward to more Sam and Jared. Book two is on my horizon. ♡

The synopsis sounds so effin't amazing, as well as the reviews and I just had to give it a go. HERE BE SEXIST VAMPIRES was quite the book and I did like it, but me being me I did have my issues with it. But, basically we have Sam Parker who get recruited to be in the Grand High Master Vampire’s private army. And we have this sexist Commander Vampire, Jared Micheals, who has a big problem with women.I would've liked this book more if they characters grew up way before almost the end of the book. First, let's talk about Sam. She has been through a lot. Her sire is pig. He turned her because he wanted her and used her basically as a sex slave and since she has these special gifts that are so rare he wanted her because of that. Her three years of a vampire and being in hell has made her a tough cookie. But she's a tortured soul.Sam and Jared have this connection when they first meet. You know the hate/love relationship. At a point Sam accuses Jared of being just like her sire. So wrong. I feel like she didn't do any character growth through this book. I know she was tortured and still afraid to really be with someone, but she is letting that rule her life and in books, I just want my character to grow up and change a little bit.Don't get me started on Jared. I expected so much more out of him. He was way too childish for way too long for me. He did change for Sam to pursue her and all. But he gave her such a hard time at the beginning of the book and still in the middle it seemed, til almost the mid-end. I liked him when he finally grew up, but it took too long. And in my opinion he is still sexist.I did enjoy watching the relationship between these two and the sexual tension. It was hot. And I loved all the side characters. My problem was character immaturity and the growth. As well as everything just too long to process. And everything gets totally resolved and processed right at the end. I liked the concept of HERE BE SEXIST VAMPIRES, but it wasn't great. I will give the second a try since I still liked the characters in some extent and the plot of this series.

This is one of my favorite vampire series. I've read this book many times and it still holds my interest. I truly enjoy the world that Suzanne Wright has built. This was my first read by Suzanne Wright and it hasn't been my last. I truly enjoy the authors work. She creates sarcastic, strong, female leads. The males are fantastic complements to the heroines. What I really enjoy about her work is that she knows what writing style works for her. She also improves. There were a few grammar errors here and there but I easily overlooked those mistakes. I truly enjoy this book. The heroine is Sam. She's fouled mouth (in the best of ways), strong, different from those and she's very different from the other vampires in this world. There are three "breds" of vampires. Sventi is what Sam is. They usually are on the bottom of the vampire pyramid. Then it's the Keja with the Pagori's on the top. I don't want to give away too much, but don't underestimate Samantha Parker. The title is what really caught my attention. This book is not a disappointment.Overall: 5/5

4.5 starsI always find myself loving the bossy and protective leading men in these books. Jared is no different. He’s a bit of a jerk at first, but once you realize it’s because he’s in unfamiliar territory and doesn’t know what to do with his feelings for Sam, it’s easy to forgive him.Sam is a strong female leading character. She acts a little OTT at first in an attempt to prove herself, but given the circumstances it was understandable. Sam and Jared have an immediate attraction to each other, even though they do try and fight it. I couldn’t help but pull for the two of them to get together.I liked all the guys in Jared and Sam’s legion and I’m looking forward to learning more about them in the next books. The battle scene at the end was little overly dramatic, but it’s a fictional vampire story so I can’t be too harsh.
