I really wanted to love this book, but I only ended up liking it. The Extraditionist is a hard act to follow, and like many sequels, The White Tigress just wasn't as good as the first story.The novels suffers from some of the same flaws as The Extraditionist: too many characters and sub-plots, which makes the main story line, at times confusing. I felt like I was shifting between two different novels. This is not a "light read" that can be quickly digested at night: it requires a commitment from the reader to follow the story line closely.The story line is apocalyptic, and frankly, unbelievable. I was disappointed that Sombra was not developed more, and ultimately, she was transformed from a character of intrigue and mystery to a banal cartel member.I practice the same kind of law as the author--perhaps that is why I found the first book so intriguing. I admire the author for stepping outside of his comfort zone and coming up with such a creative story though.There were moments in this book that were quite enjoyable to read. I think that old World War II war buffs might enjoy this story a bit more than I did.I hope the author keeps writing and that he goes back to what he does best---writing about criminals and the court system.
This is the second in the series and a lot happens! We get to follow Benn on a long and treacherous journey of redemption and survival that will take him around the globe several times over. The action never slows down and it is a challenge to keep up with all the sub plots and new characters. Stick with it and you understand how it all comes together in the end. The finish is spectacular and well worth the read. This one was hard to put down and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
Not as good as the first book. Too many stories, too many characters. It's very cramped book. Some things don't have development, they come out of nowhere. No natural flow like Extraditionist. too many cliches, and problem is not Bluestone, it's almost all characters. Real disappointment. There stars probably too much for it. I would probably but the next book but if it comes out the same as this one, I will not waste my time.
Story all over the place, problems with continuity. Not as enjoyable as his first novel which as linear, understandable and adventurous. That one took the reader to places and exposed us to experiences we might not have known about. It seems like the author was experimenting with a new style going back and forth in time and place but not done well enough for reader to follow. It was a disappointment and I was looking forward to this book.
The first book was a tight tale well written. This book continued with some of the same characters, but it seemed to be far more convoluted and more random, and less engaging, at least for me.
Thus book was pretty good but was a little confusing in the middle. It all,sort of,came together in the end. They teased the ending with hints of another book in series.
It helps if you have read the first book. The characters that are the same make it easier to follow. I think the book follows a good path to the ending.
Too many things going on to keep everyone straight. Even with that, I enjoyed the story and like to see Bluestone's character continue to evolve. I look forward to the next book.
